A saddle-stitched booklet, often referred to as a stapled booklet, is a type of binding method where sheets of paper are folded in half and then fastened together along the fold line with staples. This method is named "saddle stitch" because the folded sheets are draped over a saddle-like apparatus during the stapling process.

Stapled booklets are commonly used for smaller publications such as brochures, magazines, catalogues, activity books, instruction manuals, and newsletters due to their cost-effectiveness and simplicity in production.

Due to the custom setup we use at Imprint Digital, we can print and bind any size booklet within A5 (148x105mm) and A4.

Our most popular sizes are A4 booklets (297x210mm) and A5 booklets (210x148mm).

Our selection of paper types for saddle-stitched booklets is extensive, catering to various content needs. Below are our most popular choices:

  • 115gsm Coated Matt: This is an excellent choice for budget-friendly booklets and marketing materials. Its matte finish provides a professional look without the high cost, making it ideal for economical yet quality printing.
  • 130gsm Coated in Matt or Gloss: Perfect for publications that require a more sophisticated touch, like magazines. The option of a matt or gloss finish allows for customization based on the aesthetic and tactile feel you want to achieve.
  • 170gsm Coated Matt: When you need to make an impression, especially for showcasing products, this heavier paper is the go-to choice. Its substantial feel and excellent print quality make it ideal for high-end booklets.

We offer a diverse selection of paper types for our saddle-stitched booklets, ensuring the perfect match for both aesthetic and practical needs. If you're looking for a specific type of paper not listed, we're more than likely able to source it for you.

For saddle-stitched booklets that feature photographs and high-quality images, we provide coated papers ranging from 115gsm to 170gsm, available in both gloss and matt finishes. These papers are ideal for producing vibrant colour prints, making them perfect for a variety of booklet types.

If you're uncertain about the best paper choice for your saddle-stitched booklet, please consult our blog post on paper types or reach out to us directly for personalized advice. We're also open to sourcing specific papers not listed on our website upon request.

For our booklet covers, we primarily use heavier paper ranging from 170gsm to 300gsm to ensure durability and a quality feel. Customers can choose between coated papers, which come in gloss, semi-gloss, and matte finishes, and uncoated papers for a natural texture.

Glossy finishes make colours vibrant and are great for eye-catching designs, while matte finishes offer an elegant, subtle look. We also offer lamination options for added protection and a premium finish. The choice of cover stock depends on your booklet's design, content, and intended use, allowing for a perfect blend of functionality and style.

We offer various options to add a touch of elegance and professionalism:

  • Foiling: Add a metallic or colored foil to your booklet cover for a luxurious and eye-catching effect. Foiling can be used for logos, titles, or other design elements to make them stand out.
  • Embossing: Create a raised or 3D effect on specific areas of your cover. Embossing adds a tactile dimension to your booklet, making it more engaging and visually appealing.
  • Gatefold: For an impressive opening experience, choose a gatefold cover. This involves extended cover pages that fold into the center, offering additional space for design and information.
  • Shrink Wrapping: Ensure your booklets arrive in pristine condition with shrink wrapping. This not only protects each booklet during transport but also provides a professional finish for distribution or retail display.

These extras can significantly elevate the look and feel of your saddle-stitched booklets, making them stand out and leaving a lasting impression on your audience.
